The definition of cool

*the following is a dramatic reenactment*

Hipster 1: Hey so how about that clothing swap in New House last night that was completely demolished by the hip-ass kids from Dulaney?
Hipster 2: Yeah man, we totally stopped their good time by having a clothing swap a few days earlier.
Hipster 1: Right! And we had no intention of doing one until we found out -they- were doing one!
Hipster 2: Right! And how about those sweet-ass personal invitations we handed out only to people we knew or who looked cool.
Hipster 1: Oh, that was totally rad. Good thing we know if someone is cool based on how they dress.
Hipster 2: Its a good thing we kept fun times away from those weirdos in New House and kept any donations of clothes away from the Hurricane Relief Fund.
Hipster 1: Yeah, and kept the tradion of clothing swap in Dulaney where it belongs.
Hipster 2: Hey, didn't two clothing swaps happen in Winslow two years ago?
Hipster 1: Whatever, at least it wasn't in some dorm where they don't smoke cigarettes or drink wine.
Hipster 2: You're Totally right.

*end*

That was a really shitty thing to do. You belong back in highschool when petty shit like this was accepted. And yeah, you're donating the extra clothes to Salvation Army, and thats cool and all, but what the fuck, dude? holding a counter-clothing swap against new house? handing out flyers to certain people that basically say "fuck the new house" on them? wouldnt that time and energy be better put to use by taking up a cause like fighting aids or cancer or even the common fucking cold rather than fighting a bunch of kids who took initiative first simply because you find yourselves cooler than they are or something? fuck you.

Ah, Goucher. A place where you have to punch administrators in the neck if you want their help, and you're only tolerated if you wear checkered shoes and coke-bottle glasses. What a great college.

I hate it and everybody in it.

no... its not bad at all. on the whole, people here are really, really cool... but yknow, anywhere you go you're bound to find people who are... just plain dicks.

I just happen to be a pretty grumpy old codger (and I'm only 20!). Really, it's like Johno said-- people here are pretty damned great, it's just that there are assholes like any other college you go to.

that's true... there are always going to be the people who just can't get out of that high school mentality & childish petty crap like this becomes the highlight of their lives.

20 Years Later

Hipster 1: hey dude! remember the time we pulled one over on the new house peeps & had our clothing swap first in Dulaney?

Hipster 2: yeah man! that was totally awesome, we were the baddest ever.

Hence, the ignorance and lack of doing anything actually productive in their lives. This does happen folks- people do think that the shining point in life is stuff like that. I feel sorry for them.

I only heard about the Dulaney one due to the masses and masses of posters all over. The only mention of the New House one I saw was on the Dulaney posters. I didn't go to either one. But I'm floored by how much resentment people seem to have towards New House. Someone tried to tell me yesterday that New House is full of "wannabe stoners." "That's why they're in the substance free dorm, then?" "Yeah, they wanna party but they so can't." Right.
